Production at BE Group’s Lapua Service Center is off to a good start. In response to the successful launch and growing customer needs, the service workshop will begin operating in two shifts in February. By the end of the summer, the facility will operate in three shifts to meet increasing demand.
The service workshop offers customers a wide range of further processing services for steel, such as laser cutting, edging, drilling, blasting, and flame and plasma cutting. Of these services, edging and drilling are brand new additions to BE Group’s range of services.
In March services will expand further when flame and plasma cutting machinery along with mitering equipment are introduced.
”Demand in the metals industry continues to be strong. One indicator of this is that our clients are very interested in becoming acquainted with the Lapua Service Workshop on-site. Today our customers want to center their deliveries, and therefore favour suppliers who are able to deliver set packages in a single order,” says BE Group’s Production Director Ilpo Valtonen.
The company’s investment into Lapua further raises BE’s products to a higher degree of further processing.
”When a company uses pre-processed steel products instead of their own manufacture, they need not keep stocks of their own, and can rather instead focus on their own core business operations. In this way, companies’ operational preconditions improve, as does overall quality, while further processing becomes more efficient,” explains llpo Valtonen.
Total costs for the machinery and instrument investments amounts to some 1.8 million euros. The new service workshop is around 3 000 square meters in size. The property moreover allows for further expansion of activities in the area.
The service workshop currently employs a staff of 10, however personnel is expected to rise to around 20 employees. Recruitment of new employees has gone smoothly, thanks to BE’s good reputation as an employer and due to the availability of skilful workers. BE Group is very pleased it has had the opportunity to welcome new and competent employees onboard.
