BE Group Oy Ab, specialised in steel, stainless steel and aluminium sales as well as production services, has launched operations in its expanded steel service centre at Lotila, Lahti. The steel service centre at Mytäjäinen in Lahti has been closed, while the company’s headquarters remain there.
The transfer is part of a larger plan: warehousing of steel and metal products was centred in Lahti and Turku, whereas production services were centred in Lahti, Turku and Lapua. By centralising its steel service centres in Finland, BE Group is streamlining its production and material handling as well as raising inventory turnover. These changes significantly lend to decreasing transport costs.
New production and high-bay warehouse space has been constructed in Lahti. A total of 1.8 million euros was invested in machines and equipment in 2009.
This final phase of the company’s streamlining plan will both expand and significantly improve overall services for customers.
“By streamlining our production and warehousing, we are better prepared to meet the challenges and tighter requirements of our customers. At the same time, we are improving the competitiveness of the entire supply chain. We are now all set for economic recovery,” says Matti Tiira, Managing Director of BE Group Oy Ab.
Since 2003, BE Group has consistently worked towards streamlining its operations, managing to increase production service sales from 41 percent to 47 percent of the total turnover.
These streamlining measures form the final phase in BE Group’s long-term strategy for the years 2009–2012. In line with the strategy, production service capacity will significantly increase in all three steel service centres. At the same time, the processing degree of production will be higher, and the production service share is to reach 55 percent of total sales by the end of 2012.
