Background
The new European Chemicals Regulation REACH (Regulation European Community 1907/2006) was entered into force June 1, 2007. REACH concerns Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It affects most industries. The aim of the regulation is to guarantee a high safety level for health and environment. All substances produced in or imported to EU, in amounts exceeding 1 tonne annually, require registration at European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki.
BE Group’s approach
In BE Group we have identified the work needed to ensure full compliance with REACH such as timetable for the pre-registration and the routines for continuous registration of substances. We communicate with our suppliers to be able to fulfil the obligations. According to REACH BE Group is mainly a “Downstream User of chemical substances” but in some cases an Importer too. As such we intend to pre-register and register all substances imported by us. To secure that we can continue to offer critical substances to our customers we also ask our suppliers if they intend to pre-register and register all the substances concerned. If any of them will not, BE Group will either register the substances or look for other suppliers or substances.
